A girls' basketball coach in St. Charles County, Missouri, is facing felony charges in connection with possession of child pornography. The 47-year-old man is also charged with promoting child pornography in connection with his arrest.

Authorities say the man had coached 5th- and 6th-grade students at St. Joachim and Ann School in St. Charles. So far, there is no indication the man victimized any of the students on his basketball teams, but the alleged behavior is still particularly disconcerting, considering the man's station at the institutions. The man was charged after an investigation began about six months ago, according to officers. He voluntarily resigned from all positions at the parish at that time. Since that point, volunteer and educational leaders have taken measures to keep the man away from young people.

Official records show the man emailed pornographic images to his own electronic address as early as October. An Internet service provider reported the incident to a national clearinghouse for children's rights, which consequently submitted the information to the task force known as Missouri Internet Crimes against Children. The man's property was searched in November, during which a computer and thumb drive were seized. Authorities say the computer held more than 100 pornographic images, and the thumb drive had several more.

The man is currently being held on a $50,000 bond, and he is prohibited from having any contact with minor children.

In this case, the man is facing three total felony counts in connection with his alleged crimes. He would be well-advised to consider the assistance of a qualified criminal defense attorney, who could help him learn more about his legal rights and responsibilities.
