A St. Louis, Missouri, man has been charged in connection with an attack that led to a police chase earlier this month, according to local authorities. The 23-year-old man is in custody for alleged felonies including first-degree assault, armed criminal action and resisting arrest.

The incident started not long after midnight when police were called to a bar to deal with a physical altercation. The fight happened in the parking lot of the bar and grill. Both of the men involved are from St. Louis County.

A 33-year-old man claimed that the suspect hit him over the head with a handgun, causing him to start bleeding. Reportedly, the man sped off in his vehicle after the incident occurred. The man was able to describe his alleged attacker, providing a license plate number and description of the suspect's vehicle. The victim apparently did not know the man who hit him. Police said they are unsure what the men had been fighting about.

The suspect was spotted by patrol officers while driving his Oldsmobile. Officers claim that the man attempted to evade arrest by speeding onto the interstate highway. Police chased the man for several minutes, but soon his engine failed. The man coasted to the nearest exit on the interstate. He then leapt out of the car, allegedly attempting to escape police officers on foot. He was eventually violently tackled by police officers and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries before he was brought to jail.

Police report that they seized two handguns from the suspect's vehicle. The suspect is currently in custody in the St. Louis County jail under a $75,000 bail, according to the authorities.

When people get into an argument at a bar, emotions can build and violent altercations ensue. In a situation similar to this, it is not uncommon for people to make a knee-jerk decision to make an altercation turn physical. Otherwise level-headed individuals can make life-changing decisions that are out of character. Knowing this, the man's defense will have to carefully consider all the circumstances of the incident, including the rough manner in which he was apprehended, in order to mount a strong case.
