Anytime someone is dealing with federal weapons charges, they could face very serious legal consequences. In addition to pleading guilty to weapons charges, one Missouri man has admitted to drug charges. Facing convictions on two very serious felony crimes is a reminder of the importance of having knowledgeable legal counsel.

The 59-year-old man has agreed to plead guilty to possessing ammunition as a convicted felon and distributing over 50 grams of methamphetamine. Late last summer the man was arrested following an investigation involving state law enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Sentencing for such crimes is very stringent. For the weapons charge, the man could spend 10 years in prison and between five and 40 years behind bars for the drug charges. Sentencing for this man will be determined in a few months. It's obvious that facing conviction on two federal felonies is a very serious matter. Anytime someone faces federal charges, the punishment for such crimes is usually harsher than a state crime.

Having a competent and passionate criminal defense attorney is important anytime you face criminal charges. In this man's case, he would be best served by having effective legal representation, even though he pled guilty. An attorney's job is to ensure that their clients are treated fairly under the law, so their rights are not abused and they receive a fair punishment if they are convicted. Hopefully this man will receive a sentence that reflects the circumstances of the crimes he has been accused of, rather than receiving excessive prison time.
